Hello,

I have created a website (free) which has resources, such as Activity Worksheets, Exam Study Notes, Exam Questions, Model answers, Multiple Choice Questions etc. It is still in its embryonic stages, However, unit 1 is generally complete - has all the exam notes (students may find helpful) and teaching resources.

Check the updates for latest uploads.

http://www.psychologyzone.co.uk

I hope this may be useful to some!

Thank you

The following is the letter we sent Mr Gove: -

Dear Secretary of State,

Initial Teacher Training and Psychology

We are writing to you today to express our concern about some aspects of your plans for Initial Teacher Training. The recent announcement by the TDA shows that the government is committed to investing in the best quality graduates as trainee teachers. We support this approach but we are extremely disappointed to see that this commitment does not appear to extend to psychology graduates.

According to the information in the ITT plan, psychology is ‘a non-priority’ subject and therefore trainees would not be eligible for a bursary. Future trainees will in effect be penalised for choosing psychology, as they will need to find up to £9000 for fees on top of living expenses in order to train.

Psychology is the only science subject not to have been designated a priority subject, and therefore not to attract a bursary. We are unclear as to why this is the case, especially at a time when the uptake of science subjects by young people in the UK is a concern. It is now the fourth most popular A-level subject with over 56,000 sitting the psychology exam in 2011 (JCQ, Joint Council for Qualifications,www.jcq.org.uk. 2011), compared to just 275 candidates when the exam was first set in 1972.

The European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA), to which the European Federation of Psychology Teachers’ Associations (EFPTA) is affiliated, recently hosted a conference at the European Parliament in Brussels. The aim of this event was to demonstrate the importance of the role of psychology in promoting the health and well-being of European citizens, and Professor Robert Roe (President of EFPA) made it absolutely clear to the Members of the European Parliament that psychology teachers make a significant contribution by encouraging young people to explore issues such as understanding how they learn, the importance of healthy life-styles and how to achieve self-regulation. There are clearly significant economic benefits attached to any improvements that can be made in relation to these issues. It is indeed interesting that Finland is referred to in the White Paper as a nation of educational excellence and in that country psychology is a compulsory subject for students aged 16-19.

Despite the small numbers of available places, the role of the PGCE in psychology has been crucial to improving the quality teaching in many schools across the country. It is therefore essential that PGCE courses are able to attract high calibre trainees to ensure that improvements in the subject continue.

We are also puzzled why some other non-National Curriculum subjects, including Classics and Economics, have been designated ‘priority’ subjects when psychology, has not. There is a danger that this “down-grading” combined with a lack of a bursary for those looking to train, may be interpreted in some quarters as a lack of Government understanding of psychology, ahead of the publication of the National Curriculum review proposals.

Your neglect of psychology education in schools is particularly hard to understand, in view of your Government’s own initiative in setting up the Behavioural Insight Team (BIT), whose aim is to find ‘intelligent ways to encourage, support and enable people to make better choices for themselves’. That is precisely one of the aims that psychology teachers in schools and colleges have been quietly pursuing for years. Yet, whilst you invest financially in the application of psychological principles in the form of the BIT, you are withdrawing financial support for psychology education in schools. This makes no sense.

Through high quality psychology teaching students develop essential transferable skills which enhance learning and achievement in other subjects as well as those which can encourage them to make healthier choices of life-style and become critically confident citizens. This is particularly important at a time when the educational performance of our children appears to be falling in relation to those in other countries, and when the effects of health related illness is costing the taxpayer enormous amounts of money.

Children and young people in this country deserve the best quality psychology education and the best quality psychology teachers. We urge you to reconsider this policy and demonstrate that the government believes this too.

We look forward to hearing from you on this matter.

Yours sincerely,

Deb Gajic

For the past 2.5 years I have been involved with a woman, and we were very close. Talked about future, talked about children, talked about everything. Had a very passionate relationship. We had both gone through divorces, so we had quite a bit in common. We did live far away, but I spent 50% of my time with her, and 50% where my children lived. We had issues, and it was a struggle but, I thought, we both felt it was worth the struggle.

I never experienced much love from the heart from my family.

My father behaves as a short love affair towards me (he abused me in early childhood)
My mother dislikes and rejects me (as girls were rejected in former times)
In my heart I always remained lonesome (as a true development aid volunteer).

Now I've picked this 'man of my dreams'! A married, former teacher of mine, powerful, career-oriented, and he considers me as a simple comrade or workmate of his.

Wondering if this falls in someones area as the anti-social behavior i describe is beyond my understanding in what to do?
But i do think some will recognise the situation.

We have a farm in Australia in a area where many people are related and although i am there nearly each day , we dont live on the property.
Over the last 6 years we have had perhaps 150 sheep stolen despite being id tagged, never a call to say they have strayed.
She has land which has use of far and wide so it is impossible to know where the animals go.
Neighbours say nothing as she is a local girl.

I have this new friend, a girl, we are not a boyfriend and a girlfriend, nor do any of us want the intimate relationship. However, we are both extremely shy and closed-up. I want to know her better, but I don't want to let people I don't know to let to know myself. This is something just against my personality. It makes me feel bad and all that... It's tremendous stress for me, of which I already have a lot.

Hello everyone! I'll just cut to the chase. I have much in common with my father: we both have an immense love of learning, we both strive to be as rational as possible, we both love odd humour, unusual music and 'intellectual' conversation, and we are both very introspective and analytical. He has told me on many occasions that I am the person most similar to him that he has ever met, and that only with me can he engage in a certain level of conversation. My parents divorced when I was three and my father eventually remarried and produced two new children, but he was always a major presence in my life, taking me on long holidays, frequently keeping me with him on weekends and having many formative discussions with me. This is why I have trouble understanding his recent behaviour. I am now over thirty (sorry, can't help it) and have been married (happily, I'm glad to say) for five years; because of my marriage I had to move to America, while my father lives in Europe. Obviously this means that I can't physically meet him very often and naturally we communicate less frequently than we could if we lived closer together. However, while I see that he is quite active on facebook, having little 'wall'

i have one girl's number and i've met her maybe 4 times in a period of 5 months. she says that she wants to go out, do something together when i ask her if she wants to, which is of course an obvious answer, because people don't want to hurt other people, but she never offers to go out. we both are quite shy personalities, both are unconventional. the thing is that when i mention going out a few times in a conversation or uncountiously ask her to go out, not directly, then she offers to go out. without that - she never offers to do that. however, when i do that, from her answer, i can 'feel' that she doesn't want to go anywhere with me and she does that only because she feels a need to for some reason. she is a very caring person and she doesn't want to hurt others, she is 16 years old, i am 18 (soon 20)... so since she knows a lot about me and she knows that she is the only person i talk to openly, i think that she might not want to hurt me and just goes out with me coz i want to. i do not like that, because i want her to want to go out, or i want to stop this strange relationship.

I am with the man of my dreams, but I am trying to break up the relationship because I don't have faith that it will ever work out.

At the moment we are living in different countries due to his work. It is supposed to be a temporary position but it has already been going on for longer than expected, and we're not sure when we'll be together again. I trust him 100% and we have contact most days, either by telephone, online chatting, or by E-mail. Nothing is too much trouble for him, and he is always there for me when I need him. I know he is the perfect man for me, but I am worried that ultimately we won't end up together.
