Deb Gajic on "GTP - Routes to QTS" http://www.theatp.org/forum/topic/gtp-routes-to-qts#post-9 Fri, 08 May 2009 15:08:02 +0000 Deb Gajic 9@http://www.theatp.org/forum/ Pathways to achieve QTS status (for Psychology teachers) There are two main pathways – depending upon whether you have prior teaching experience (such as in a post-16 establishment) or no prior teaching experience Prior teaching experience Assessment-based route Contact the University of Gloucester (recommended by the GTC) Entry requirements: > GCSE Maths and English @ C+ > 2 years full time [or p/t equivalent] teaching experience (PGCE post-compulsory year of training MAY count as first year). This should ideally be a 50/50 split across 2 consecutive key stages – and in Psychology related [pre 16] subjects. U-of-G accepts GCSE Sociology, H&Sc or R.E. as related subjects. They do not recognise Citizenship or PSHE within their criteria. (N.B. you must ALREADY be teaching 2 consecutive key stages BEFORE your training commences) > You will be required to teach 2 consecutive key stages whilst you gather your evidence. > Your evidence comprises 3 pieces of evidence towards each ‘Q’ standard. > You are also required to successfully complete the QTS skills tests in numeracy, literacy and ICT. > This course is funded by the TDA, so there is NO COST for you or your employer. No prior experience Contact Local ITT providers to see if they offer GTP training in Psychology Entry requirements: > GCSE Maths and English @ C+ > UK bachelor’s degree > You must be employed as an unqualified teacher at a school > Part time course – taking one academic year, you attend lectures, tutorials, seminars, complete assessments, and work in 2 separate schools, across 2 key stages and 2 subject areas. This should ideally be a 50/50 split across 2 consecutive key stages. Discuss appropriate curriculum subjects with individual training providers > Your evidence comprises 3 pieces of evidence towards each ‘Q’ standard. > You are also required to successfully complete the QTS skills tests in numeracy, literacy and ICT. > You will usually continue to be employed, and paid by your school whilst your training takes place. However, your school will have to make arrangements to cover your teaching commitments whilst you are at your second school placement
